| Take a Tasty Siesta this week at La Hacienda del Rio! Each time you enter "La Hacienda" you may be in for a spicy surprise – but one thing is for sure – Buenas Cosas Para Ti – there are always "good things in store for you!" Peruse pictures that paint a scene of Mexican matadors and Mayan ruins as you enter. If you’ve never tried La Hacienda, you really need to taste what 17 years of perfecting a good thing can do for your taste buds. Peter Laramie, a manager since 1989, shares some of his insight into the adventurous diner’s need for variety and change… He says that while many of their customers’ favorites remain constant – enchiladas, burritos, fajitas… "we try to keep abreast of new dishes that develop by combining flavors – like Italian and Mexican. Or borrowing a little flavor from the east for our vegetable and rice stir fry. "We start with the basics, like really good marinade. Then we just add the right spices." If you prefer "Carribean style" - light and spicy – you’ll find a seafood dish sauteed with vegetables, or fish with fruit. Whatever pleases your palate – vegetarian or carnivore – beef, chicken, seafood or pork– salads or pasta – serene or spicy – grilled, fried, sauteed, baked or broiled – there’s definitely something on the menu for you. Laramie says "Pedro’s Platter" is popular, a sampler of many popular appetizers. "We offer a real Mexican burrito with warm chili and a cold tortilla. The sauces and spices are what make the difference. Our margaritas are pretty popular, too!" And talk about great service! Laramie says "controlled chaos" is the way "The Phantom Gourmet" described this phenomenon in his review. According to Laramie, "The Phantom" gave La Hacienda an "83", which this writer knows is a very high mark by the phantom’s standards. "There are a lot of new chain restaurants in the area," says Laramie. "Many have popped up in just the last few years. The big difference – and what has brought customers back to La Hacienda again and again – is the food." So grab yourself a siesta during the work week. You have good reason, since La Hacienda has half price nachos and San Gria every Monday through Wednesday (except holidays) – all day long.
